Anton Lachky, Les SlovaKs
I am Anton Lachky, a dancer/choreographer from Slovakia, a former member of the AkramKhan Company and a co-founder of the Les Slovaks dance collective.
I have been teaching a workshop in Plesna izba Maribor and performed on the festival Platforma in 2008, where I met many young curious dancers and a very supportive production team that plays a significant part in dance education in Maribor and Slovenia. I realized that Plesna izba Maribor has a fundamental role inside the dance field because it gives the opportunity to dancers to creative information ona professional level, through national and international teachers, who are active participants of the contemporary dance development. At the same time it gives space to us teachers to share our knowledge and elaborate it.
I see Plesna izba's festival as an important platform that joins new, talented dancers and choreographers from Slovenia, broadens their network by connecting them with other recognized artists and allows them to stay in touch with the international field of contemporary art.
I find it necessary that Plesna izba Maribor can keep on functioning because it is the only vital force in North-East Slovenia that is trying to keep the contemporary dance alive and offers an alternative to main stream activities.
I fully support that Plesna izba gets the finances needed for executing their visions, which open horizons, stimulate creativity and critical thinking among young people.
